The broach according to the invention, for a broaching machine, including an elongate body 2 and transverse housings 6 laid out to receive removable cutting tips (inserts) 4, each tip including at least one front cutting edge 14, an upper face 10, a front lateral face 12, a rear lateral face 13, and a lower face 11, is characterised in that: the housings are of depth decreasing towards the rear, considering the direction A of rectilinear working displacement of the broach 1; the housings 6 exhibit two surfaces 8, 9 on which a tip 4 can bear, namely a lower surface 8 and a rear surface 9, against which the lower face 11 and the rear lateral face 13 of the tip are clamped and immobilised by fastening means; the free upper edge 22 of the rear surface 9 of a housing 6 constitutes the free front edge of the lower surface 8 of the next housings 6 so that the housings 6 as a whole exhibit, in the longitudinal direction of the broach, a sawtooth cross-section. <IMAGE>
