Plant for automatically conveying and for controlling steel billets, with piecewise advance, the plant being composed of a distribution means 8 in which the billets are received loose (in bulk) and are distributed one by one and in an oriented manner, of a conveyor 10 located at the output of the said distribution means and of an inclined ramp 11 having rollers, the inclined ramp being placed after the said conveyor. The inclined ramp 11 includes a separating device S making possible the piecewise advance of the billets, downstream of which separating device is installed a device C for inspecting the length of the said billets and associated with a device E for rejecting the non-conforming pieces. <IMAGE>
