The present invention relates to an induction system (22) for an internal combustion engine (11) having a cylinder head (18) and a cylinder block (12), said cylinder head (18) at least partially defining a combustion chamber (21), and an intake passage arrangement (22) for each cylinder to serve a plurality of intake valves (35), said intake passage arrangement (22) being controlled by a control valve (54) which is rotatably supported at a lower side of the intake passage arrangement (22) in the cylinder head (18) wherein the axis of the control valve (54) extends transversely to the flow path of an intake charge through the intake passage arrangement (22) and at a bight of the intake passage (33,34) and a rectifier plate (57) having a cylindrical base portion (58) and a rectifier plate portion (59) which extends integrally upwardly from the cylindrical base portion (58) into a respective intake passage (33) controlled by said control valve (54). More specifically, the cylindrical base portion (58) is received within a cylinder head counterbore (38) beneath a poppet valve seat (37) while an upstream edge (62) of the rectifier plate portion (59) forms a stop of a valve cut-out (56) of the control valve (54) said rectifier plate portion (59) being designed to comprise an integral bent portion (61) providing a clearance for a stem of the intake valve (35). <IMAGE>
