PURPOSE:To provide an automatic dimming camera capable of accurately identifying an effective area and a cut area even when the accuracy of detecting a photographing distance is not well. CONSTITUTION:The camera is provided with a flashing means 101 capable of preliminarily emitting light and normally emitting the light, a photometry means 102 for dividing a luminous flux emitted from the flashing means 101 and then reflected on an object field into plural photometric areas so as to perform photometry and output each photometry value, a dimming area deciding means 103 for deciding the photometric area which contributes for dimming at the time of normally emitting the light by use of the photometry value and the photographing distance and the detection error of the photographing distance at the time of preliminarily emitting the light and a dimming means 104 for performing the dimming at the time of normally emitting the light by use of the dimming area which is decided by the dimming area deciding means. |
