A control action generated by compering a required setting with a measured value produces a signal (ST) that is integrated (3) and is used as an input ot a stage (4) that limits the applied action (STB). The limiting stage also receives the input (SJ) and so long as this is greater than the integrater output the control action is not affected. If the integration output is greater than the original input a limiting action is applied. When used in vehicle speed control system, this avoids uncomfortable acceleration being generated. ADVANTAGE - Provides limiting action, particularly for vehicle comfort.
