PURPOSE:To obtain a sufficient contrast even in the absence of lighting from the back and to provide an electrode with sufficient electric conductivity by providing a liquid crystal layer which can selectively absorb the transmitted light of a color filter and also providing a light reflecting layer on a reverse substrate. CONSTITUTION:The reflection type color liquid crystal display device consists of a top-side substrate 1 and the reverse-side substrate 2 where transparent electrodes are formed, a switch 3 for applying a voltage between both the substrates 1 and 2, liquid crystal particles or liquid crystal 4 in a network, liquid crystal molecules 5, and coloring matter molecules 6. In this case, a black display is made unless the voltage is applied to a liquid crystal layer. Namely, when the device is in a nonapplication state, incident light 7 is scattered by the liquid crystal molecules 5 and absorbed by the coloring matter molecules 6 and light which returns to the outside is shown by an arrow 8. Further, when the device is in an ON state, the incident light 7 is almost neither scattered by the liquid crystal molecules 5 nor absorbed by the coloring matter molecules 6 and the light which reaches the reverse-side substrate 2 is shown by an arrow 9. |
