HV meandering electrode system for electrostatic holding plates - has tracks formed on board with outer tracks receiving HV to cause electrostatic discharge

An electrostatically chargeable holding plate has a frame (6) contg. a pair of conductor tracks (3,4) having horizontal sections with spaces in-between. Located in the space, a meandering track (5) is coupled to the outer frame which is earthed. Two conductor tracks (3,4) are coupled to the h.v. supply and result in the generation of an electrostatic discharge. The ends of the tracks are rounded (10,12). Coulomb discharge is minimised by inclusion of non conducting islands (13). USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. holding paper sheets for printing. Improved life.
