PURPOSE:To shift a wavelength in a wide range with high efficiency without increasing a peak of pumping pulse light. CONSTITUTION:In a variable wavelength light source 10 in which pumping pulse light and light to be modulated are incident on a nonlinear medium, the light to be modulated is phase-modulated, and incident timings are deviated to realize a wavelength variation, the medium 22 is disposed in a laser resonator 20 having a laser medium 14, laser mirrors 18A, 18B and outputting pumping pulse light. Since the pulse light which is not passed through the mirror is incident on the medium 22 as it is, it can be efficiently phase-modulated, and a wavelength can be shifted in a wide range. |
