PURPOSE:To obtain the OAM information transfer method, which reduces influences to user information and unnecessitates periodical management, at an ATM communication system. CONSTITUTION:When an alarm or the like is detected in a device A, an N (N is an integer >=2 decided while considering a transmission error rate and a cell abandonment rate or the like) pieces of cells showing the generation of the alarm are transferred to a device B. At the device B, the N pieces of cells transferred from the device A are received and detected after protecting an N' (N'<=N) pieces of steps. Next, when the alarm or the like is recovered at the device A, an M (M is an integer >=2 decided considering the transmission error rate and the cell abandonment rate or the like) pieces of cells showing the recovery of the alarm of the like are transferred to the device B. At the device B, the M pieces of cells transferred from the device A are received and detected after protecting an M (M'<=M) pieces of steps.
