The main contacts (14, 15) of a medium voltage gas-insulation circuit breaker are shunted via arc contacts (18, 19) which abut in the closed position. The arc contacts (18, 19) are controlled by a toggle joint mechanism (23, 25) comprising a precompressed contact pressure spring. The closed position of the arc contacts corresponds substantially to the dead point of the control toggle joint and the arc contacts are slightly reopened when the circuit breaker is completely closed.
