Aqueous ink jet ink compositions comprising an aqueous carrier medium, a colorant and a sulfoxide or sulfone penetrant having a solubility in water of at least 4.5% at 25 DEG C. and represented by the formula: H(CH2)aS(O)n(CH2)bH wherein a+b=5-8, and n=1-2; exhibit rapid drying, excellent image definition, are storage stable and have excellent decap properties.
