Purificn. of ammonium sulphate (I) comprises treating an ammonium sulphate soln. obtd. in the mfr. of cyclohexanone oxime with ammonium peroxodisulphate. Ammonium peroxodisulphate in solid form or as an aq. soln. is added, pref. while stirring, to the ammonium sulphate soln., which normally contg. 65-80% H2O, 20-35% ammonium sulphate and 0.001-0.1% impurities at 0-100 deg.C pref. 10-50 deg.C. The ratio of ammonium peroxodisulphate to ammonium sulphate is e.g. 0.001-0.5 mol.% pref. 0.005-0.2 mol.%. Further when an aq. soln. is used, the ammonium peroxodisulphate content is pref. 1-40 wt.% esp. 5-30 wt.%. (I) is isolated conventionally. USE/ADVANTAGE - The pure (I) obtd. is useful e.g. for the mfr. of persulphates, fire extinguishing substances, flameproofing and descaling agents, leather mordants and yeasts. It can also be used as a nutrient for bacterial cultures and in the mfr. of rayon and glass. The method is cheaper and less time consuming than the two-stage procedure known from DE 201905
