In a hobbing machine of the type comprising a pair of coaxial heads (2, 3) driving a hob (4) supported between them, one of which (2) capable of movement toward and away from the other and one affording a key (16) positioned to engage a slot (6) associated with the hob, the slot (6) is incorporated directly into the hob (4), and each head (2, 3) carries an axially hollow alignment spigot (7, 8) with a stop collar (17, 18), matched to and insertable in the axial bore (5) of the hob (4) to a depth determined by interaction of the relative collar (17, 18) with the end of the hob; equipping one of the heads (2 or 3) with a coaxial tension rod (9) insertable through the bore of the hob (4), and the other head (3 or 2) with a clamping mechanism (11) capable of gripping and tensioning the rod (9), the necessary rigidity is obtained without the use of an arbor. <IMAGE> |
