A method of replacing a rod, characterized in that the elements of the rod are moved out successively to the front of the discharging or charging machine onto parallel roller stands, located in a platform, preferably between batteries, each stand being designed for one element, and the parts are then detached, whereas the replacement rod stored in parts on separate roller stands in the platform is introduced into the machine analogously one part at a time in reverse order.
