The invention relates to a catalyst for the transformation of technical C8-aromatics fractions in the presence of hydrogen, which fractions contain xylenes in concentrations outside the thermodynamic equilibrium and also ethylbenzene. Surprisingly, it has been found that a pentasil zeolite of MFI structure, which was enveloped in pseudoboehmite before the incorporation into a platinum-containing Al2O3 matrix, gives a catalyst which shows a high activity and selectivity which is readily controllable by means of basic compounds and allows a long operating period. The platinum content of the catalyst is less than 0.1 % by mass. |
