PURPOSE:To synthesize a well-balanced full color image light without narrowing the wavelength band of the image light emitting each liquid crystal display element with a light flux reduction lens arranged on the emitting side or the incident side of each liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:A dichroic mirror DM21 synthesizing a green image light Ga and a red image light Ra penetrates the green image light and reflects the other image lights. A dichroic mirror DM22 synthesizing an image light RaGa including the green component synthesized in this first dichroic mirror and a blue image light Ba penetrates the image light RaGa including the green component and reflects the blue image light Ba. The green image light Ga is made incident as P polarized light against the dichroic mirrors DM21 and DM22, and the red image light Ra and the blue image light Ba are made incident as S polarized light against the dichroic mirrors DM21 and DM22. |
