The hydraulic ABS brakes have a master cylinder with an actuating piston which is connected to as central valve inner housing (6), in which two valves (35,44,37,40) are fitted. The first valve (35,44) consists of a ball (44), which cooperates with a seat (35), whilst the second valve conssits of a rubber ring (40) which cooperates with a seat (37). The first valve normally controls the flow between the two chambers of the master cylinder, but in the event of the first valve failing to close because of particles of grit between the ball and the seat, the second valve (37,40) can be closed by further travel of a support (38) under the force of a spring (49).
