PURPOSE:To improve the processing speed and color detection accuracy by discriminating each picture element color from a luminance and chrominance data based on a color picture data, comparing color picture element and black picture element numbers to decide a picture element block color thereby discrimi nating a primary picture color and simplifying the constitution CONSTITUTION:A color picture data of an original read by a picture read means 1 is converted into a picture data L, a, b comprising a luminance and color difference data at a color display coordinate system conversion means 2. Each picture element color is discriminated by a picture element color discrimination means 3 based on the data L, a, b and a block color discrimination means 4 compares numbers of color picture elements and black picture elements for each of blocks of plural picture elements to decide a block color. Then an original color discrimination means 5 counts a color block number over the entire original and the original color is discriminated based on the count. The color picture elements and the black picture elements are discriminated through the simple constitution not requiring preliminary scanning or the like, the processing time is reduced to implement color picture recognition in which the color detection accuracy is enhanced. |
