The device is designed to deliver warnings relating to the proximity of lightning strikes by using the sudden changes in the electric field which are caused by the space charge when the lightning strikes approach. Use is made, as a synthesized lightning-strike detection sensor, of a group of corona-current point electrodes 53 arranged radially on a hemispherical metal electrode 59 for detecting the electric field variations, with the interposition of insulators 54 in the shape of an umbrella. These electrodes are fixed to a support pole, whilst being insulated therefrom. A corona-current detection circuit and an electric-field variation detector 4 are attached to them.
