<p>PURPOSE: To provide a method for detecting and correcting the distortion of a digitized document image. CONSTITUTION: An array H(D, A) having an angle A and perpendicular displacement D is generated. A point (X, Y) laying on a straight line which is at the angle A to a horizontal axis and at a perpendicular distance D from an origin 0 is indicated. An 'energy' function e(A) considering the number of local error maximum values and their values is used. Then e(A)=Σ(H(D, A))<2> integration is performed for all possible values. A device consists of a document scanner, an image memory, and a processor. A document is scanned by the scanner to generate a digitized image, which is stored in the memory. Every 20th pixel is sampled to generate a rough image. The processor calculates the function e(A) for all quantized values of all angles A. The A when e(A) reaches a maximum value is regarded as a distortion angle.</p> |
