New thermoplastic partly crystalline aromatic copolyimide and prepolymer - prepd. from bis:amino-phenoxy benzene, oxy-bis:phthalic and other anhydride

Partly crystalline, aromatic polyimide of formula (I) and its prepolymers is new. Ar = divalent residue of an aromatic diamine; provided that upto 60 mol.% units (II) are replaced, by a residue from those of formulae (III)-(V) and at least 60 mol.% units are of formula (VI). USE/ADVANTAGE - The polymers have good heat resistance and have a melt temp. of below 400 deg.C as well as high melt stability. They are also recrystallisable. They can be used as structural adhesives with high solvent resistance.
