CONSTITUTION:An automatic transmission (a) for vehicle is connected with an engine (b) and equipped with a fluid type transmission device equipped with a direct connection clutch (c) such as lock-up clutch, and the slip quantity of the direct connection clutch (c) in the speed change process is controlled. In this case, the shift-up (speed increasing) speed change operation of an automatic transmission (a) is detected by a means (d). Further, when the up-shift speed change operation is detected, the amied slip revolution speed which is obtained by the gradual reduction after the increase by the width corresponding to the reduction width of the direct connection clutch output shaft revolution speed due to the speed change operation is determined by a means (e). Further, the slip quantity of the direct connection clutch is adjusted by a means (f) so that the determined aimed slip revolution speed and the actual slip revolution speed accord.
