PURPOSE:To obtain the compact, low-cost subject distance detection device which can preclude a failure in center measurement and measure distances all over a range finding range in a picture plane and has high wide visual field range finding effect by calculating a subject distance according to the output of a 1st position detecting means and the output of a 2nd position detecting means. CONSTITUTION:This detection device is provided with the 1st position detecting means (PSD) 5 which photodetects reflected light of range finding light from a subject 8, the 2nd position detecting means (PSD) 3 which photodetects correction light from a light emission body 4 and generates an output corresponding to the position of the light emission body 4, and distance arithmetic means 9, 10a, 16, and 17 which calculate the subject distance from the outputs of the PSDs 5 and 3. Then the light emission body 4 is shifted to project the range finding light on plural points on the subject 8, and part of the light emitted by the light emission body 4 is guided to the PSD 3 for shift position detection to detect the position of the light emission body 4. Further, the range finding result of the PSD 5 is corrected by using shift position information. |
