PRODUCTION OF ETHYLENE POLYMER

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer having moderately broad molecular weight distribution by using a catalyst containing an organic Al compound and a component produced by reacting an Mg compound, a Ti compound and a polymeric Si compound and contacting the reaction product with halogenated Si, Al and a hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is produced by contacting ethylene or ethylene and a 3-10C alpha-olefin with a catalyst composed of (A) a solid component of Ziegler-type catalyst obtained by contacting and reacting a silicon halide (e.g. methyltrichlorosilane) with a solid catalyst component composed of a magnesium dihalide, a titanium tetraalkoxide and/or a polytitanic acid ester and a polymeric silicon compound of formula (R<1> is hydrocarbon group) (e.g. methylhydropolysiloxane) and contacting the reaction product with a halogenated hydrocarbon compound (e.g. t-butyl bromide) and a halogenated aluminum compound (e.g. anhydrous aluminum chloride) and (B) an organic aluminum compound (e.g. triethylaluminum).
