A piston rod (10) carrying a magnetic head (14) slides in a cylinder (12) swivel-jointed (20,22) to a holder (18) fixed to the chassis (24). It is coupled by a length-equalising device (34) to another rod (10a) similarly jointed (30, 34 bis) to a holder (28) on the axle (26). Two proximity switches (36,38) on the outside of the cylinder (12) are operated by the magnetic head (14) to sound two warnings, one (36) at max. loading and the other (38) at 10 percent overload. ADVANTAGE - Accurate and non-polluting device indicates allowable gross wt. and warns loader when predetermined overload is attained or exceeded.
