Prodn. of a shaped elastomer, esp. a packing ring or profile membrane of a rubber material, uses a two-part heatable vulcanisation mould. The elastomeric material is placed in the vulcanisation mould; the mouthing space between the two mould halves is closed with an air-tight closure; the moulding space is evacuated; the vulcanisation mould is opened and closed several times for short positions of time, while maintaining reduced pressure in the moulding space; and the vulcanisation mould is closed and heated for sufficient time for vulcanisation. USE/ADVANTAGE - Precision parts including profiled O-rings can be formed with improved quality, because gas and air is removed from the rubber efficiently before vulcanisation.
