PURPOSE:To improve reliability of a battery, and cycle characteristic by carrying out ion implantation process on a hydrogen storage alloy including titanium. CONSTITUTION:In a battery provied with a negative electrode 2 having a hydrogen storage alloy including titanium, a positive electrode 1, and an alkaline electrolyte, glow discharging is carried out in a mixed gas of nitrogen gas and oxygen gas for hydrogen storage alloy powder, and a nitride layer is formed on the surface of the hydrogen storage alloy powder. A polytetrafluoroethylene powder serving as binder is added to the hydrogen storage alloy powder, which is kneaded, and the paste thus formed is applied to the both sides of a collector body made of punching metal, so as to manufacture the negative electrode 2. By using the negative electrode 2, the anticorrosion of the hydrogen storage alloy in the electrolyte is improved, while the reliability and the cycle characteristic are also improved. |
