Forming tight connection between concrete pipe and embedded steel sleeve - uses sealing ring fixed at inner periphery of steel sleeve and subsequently deformed by applied force

The sealed concrete pipe joint uses a rubber-elastic sealing ring, which is bonded to the sleeve and partly embedded in the pipe concrete. The ring (5) is fixed to the inner periphery of the sleeve (4) and then elastically deformed so that the ring and sleeve can be placed inside a mould and embedded as the pipe is formed. After setting, the load is removed from the ring to allow its elasticity to seal at requisite area pressure onto the hardened concrete. Pref. ring has triangular projecting ribs, cast into the concrete, so that it presents a parallelogram or rhombus. USE/ADVANTAGE - For tunnelling, mine work etc., with reliable seal of simple, low-cost design.
