A microwave tube having at least one electronically frequency-tunable cavity (3) defined by a conductive wall (10) and containing a conductive element (8) provided with at least one switching element (39) controlled by radiation (32)) from a light source outside the cavity (3). When the switching element (39) is open, the cavity (3) resonates at a first frequency, and when it is closed, said cavity (3) resonates at a second frequency. Applications: frequency-tunable magnetrons in particular.
