In a log splitter a plurality of parallel circular saw blades mounted on a common shaft cut a log into a plurality of log sections of predetermined length. The log is placed and clamped in a carriage and is advanced hydraulically towards and away from the saw blades. The fluid pressure in the carriage drive ram controls the pressure on the saw blades and a flow rate volume controls the rate of feed of the log to the blades.
