Method and device for monitoring the operation of a winch brake, particularly of the lifting winch brake of a tower crane, in which a winch brake is automatically released when the winch motor is started up. It includes a first sensor (1) detecting an order to raise or to lower the load, a second, inductive, sensor (2) measuring the displacement of the disc, a time-comparator circuit (3) connected to the two sensors, in which the state of the signal from the first sensor (1) is compared with the state of the signal from the second sensor (2), a locking relay (5) connected to the output of the circuit (3) and intended to monitor the control of the motor on the basis of the output signal from the comparator (3). <IMAGE>
