Apparatus for applying a controlled amount of reagent to one or more microscope slides (27) or the like includes a spray chamber (14) and a carousel (21) adapted to hold a plurality of slides (27) and to be mounted for rotation in the spray chamber (14). Nozzles (15, 16, 17, 18 and 19) are mounted to spray reagent onto the slides (27) in the carousel (21) as they rotate by the nozzles (15, 16, 17, 18 and 19). Accurate control of the time or angular rotation during which the reagent is sprayed from the nozzles (15, 16, 17, 18 and 19) is obtained by placing a control valve (45) in the flow line (42, 44, 46) between a reagent pump (47) and the nozzle (15) and operating the valve (45) to control flow of reagent. Control circuitry (51) determines the position of the slides (27) and carousel (21) in the spray chamber (14) and coordinates operation of the pump (47), valve (45), and the rotation of the carousel (21) to accurately cause spray of reagent onto the slides (27). |
