Isolation comprises first treating an aq. emulsion of the ozonised prod. with an alkali until a pH of ca. 9 is reached, and (A) sepg. off the deposited impurities, and neutralising the remaining emulsion with dil. acid and sepg. off deposited (I); or (B) sepg. off insol. (I) from the impurities by use of a fat-dissolved solvent. Pref. fatty ester is castor, olive or soya oil and/or oleyl oleate. USE/ADVANTAGE - HCHO is destroyed by the alkali.
