A permanent magnet assembly particularly useful in magnetic resonance studies includes a central spacer (C) having opposite shallow recesses (96, 98) therein receiving end portions of pole pieces (30, 40) for aligning same. Main permanent magnets (F, G) abut the pole pieces on the opposite sides thereof from the central spacer (C). The main permanent magnets outwardly overlap a peripheral interface (38, 48) between the pole pieces and a plurality of side permanent magnets (32a, e, 42a, e) for minimizing flux leakage at such interface. |
