PURPOSE:To effectively prevent the erosion of an electrode insertion brick by inserting a sleeve made of electrical insulation refractory material into the through- hole of the electrode insertion brick and supporting an electrode penetrating in the sleeve at one end thereof. CONSTITUTION:An electrode insertion brick 5 having a through-hole 6 for inserting a barlike electrode 1 into a glass melting furnace 10 is provided to part of the side wall 8 of the furnace 10, and a sleeve 21 made of a cylindrical electrical insulation refractory material consisting of bisected segmental pieces 20, 20' is inserted into this through-hole 6 by projecting its one end for a fixed length into the furnace 10. The electrode 1 is inserted into the furnace 10 through the sleeve 21 inside in the state that the part thereof to be exposed to the atmosphere and the part to be elevated of temp. by heat conduction are held passed through a cylindrical water cooling device 2, whereby the direct contacting of the brick 5 and the ascending flow of the high-heat molten glass is prevented. |
