An apparatus for extracting juice from fruit or vegetables includes a housing 1 for a rotary worm conveyer 5 carried on one end of a body member 4 and a sieve 16 arranged between the other end of the body member 4 and a part 12 of the housing 1 to define an inner 19 and an outer 13 annular space, the inner space 19 having open ends and the outer space 13 having closed ends. In operation the body member 4 is rotated at controllable speed by a detachable motor 2 and fruit etc., is fed via a hopper 11 to be comminuted and conveyed by the toothed worm 5 to within the sieve 16 where juice passes with the assistance of centrifugal force through the sieve 16 to the outer annular space 13 to flow through an outlet 20. The juiceless residue is passed through the open ended inner annular space 19 to be directed by ejector plates 10, secured to the body member 4, towards an outlet 21 in a cover 14. The outer space 13 is closed at one end by an unperforated portion 16b of the sieve 16 extending beyond the means 17, 18 for fixing the sieve 16 to the body member 4 and at the other end by an annular flange 15 on the cover 14. Alternatively the flange 15 may be omitted and the end closure is formed by an out turned, unperforation portion of the sieve 16.</p> |
