To separate the layers of fabrics in a stack and remove the top layer, the top layer (2) is partially lifted from the leading end (11) and the raising movement is continued to the centre zone of the layer. The top layer is then sepd. from the stack (3) in a movement continued through to the trailing end of the layer (2). The fabric lifting system is over the top layer (2) of the fabric stack (3) and then brought into pressure and adhesive contact with it, to roll it up from the leading edge in a peeling motion. The fabric (2) is lifted by a roller (1), rotating round a central axis, with an adhesive layer (4) to hold the material and carry it with the roller rotation. The adhesive layer (4) is pref. an adhesive tape, tacky on one side, with a rippled surface structure, while the non-adhesive side of the tape is held against the roller (1) by suction. The suction is applied to the adhesive tape through openings in the roller (1) surface and, when the suction is stopped, the adhesive tape can move in relation to the roller surface. The roller (1) is powered by a synchronised rotary and linear drive, where the rotary and linear speeds are equal. A separating blade (5) parts the peeled top layer (2) from the stack with a width that projects over both sides of the stack (3) and operates with a laying surface for the separated fabric layer, behind the separator blade (5). A stripper (7) covers the roller (1) width, parallel to its centre axis, and at a small gap from the roller surface, matching the roller shape to swing round the roller axis. A holder (10) can be lowered into contact pressure with the top layer (2) of the fabric stack (3). ADVANTAGE - The method allows thin and fine stacked fabrics to be sepd. into individual layers.
