The precooler (17), which has a larger cooling capacity than the final cooler (13,13a), may be an adsorption cooler (17) or a pressurised gas container with a relief valve or a plug of ice or dry ice. The final cooler is preferably a Peltier element (13,13a). This has the advantage that if the anaesthetic is cooled too much it can easily be reheated by reversing the applied voltage. ADVANTAGE - Gives a low cost, small, light weight cooler which can cool the anaesthetic in short time.
