A folding ruler has elongated wooden members (14) hingedly interconnected in pairs by clinched bolts and that snap together in their parallel positions. In order to establish the snapping connection, snap-in recesses (28) are direcly formed in the large side surface (26) of one wooden member (10, 14), spaced apart from the hinge bores (16), whereas a snap-in body made of a harder material than wood and having a convex smooth snapping surface projects over the large side surface of the other wooden member (10', 14). The snapping forces are caused by flexural strain of the member parts that project over the clinched bolts in the longitudinal direction and that, when the wooden members (14) are pivoted, are elastically expanded under the influence of the snap-in body (30) that moves over the large side surface (26) of the opposite wooden member (14). |
