<p>A safety apparatus for a bench press (10) comprises a stand (12) positionable adjacent to the support end of a bench press (10). The stand (12) has a cantilevered arm (18) extending over the top of the supports (14). A series of pulley wheels (26) is carried on said stand (12) and a non-extendible element (28) is threaded over the wheels. One end of the element (28) is connectible to a barbell (30) and the other end terminates in means by which a lifting effort is obtained on actuation provided by body movement. The means may be a pedal fitting (32) in the form of a toe cap or foot strap, or may be an electric motor activated by a pressure pad switch. <IMAGE></p> |
