Device for drying by infra-red in particular for painting, in particular of bodies or elements of bodies of automobile vehicles characterised in that it comprises: - at least one heating cassette (10-12) comprising a short-spectrum infra-red tube mounted on a mobile support (16-52) having a plurality of freedoms of motion; - means (22) which make it possible to position said infra-red cassette always at the same distance from the piece to be dried, and - a regulation system which makes it possible on the one hand, during a predetermined time, to make the emission of infra-red rays function continuously to bring the piece to be dried to the desired drying temperature and on the other hand to ensure then a pre-regulated sequential emission in order to maintain the temperature of the piece at a constant value which is that of the drying temperature. <IMAGE>
