The torque transmitted between two relatively rotatable elements (1, 2) acts on a lever (not depicted) producing an axial displacement of a position indicator (3). Two inductive or eddy-current sensors (4, 5) immovable w.r.t. each other are arranged in a displacement measurement device (6) between the surface (8) of the indicator (3) and a parallel reference surface (9). The sensor coils are energised from an oscillator, and their displacement signals demodulated, linearised and added, with compensation for thermal expansion. ADVANTAGE - Error-free and reproducible torque measurement is possible despite relative tilt of position indicator, reference element and displacement measurement device.
