Optically active 3,4-disubstd. pyrroline-2,5-dione derivs. of formula (I) are new. R1 and R2 = each alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl and R3 = chiral alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl; or R1 and R2 = each chiral alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl and R3 = alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; or R1, R2 and R3 = each chiral alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) can act as chiral N-contg. chelate ligands with transition metals in catalytic systems for asymmetric catalyses.
