PURPOSE: To obtain such a bobbin which consists of a synthetic material, is wound with an optical fiber and with which the stable drawing of the optical fiber out of a canister is possible in spite of long-term storage or even if the bobbin is subjected to a temp. change. CONSTITUTION: A layer of a curable adhesive is formed on the outside surface of the bobbin 10. This adhesive is partially cured and a wire 22 having the diameter sufficiently larger than the diameter of the optical cable is spirally wound under tension on the layer of the curable adhesive around the bobbin 10. The adhesive is then softened and, thereafter, the bobbin is heated until the adhesive cures sufficiently, following which the bobbin is cooled and the wound wire is removed so that the patterns of the spiral groove are held to remain on the outside surface of the bobbin. The combination of the curing cycles of the adhesive and the tension to be applied is so selected as to form the grooves of the depth of about 1/3 the diameter of the optical cable. |
