PURPOSE:To provide a complemental activity-inhibiting agent containing a specific beta-boswellic acid derivative as an active ingredient, having a good complemental activity-inhibiting activity and effective for treating autoimmune diseases such as systemic erythematoides and articular rheumatism. CONSTITUTION:The petroleum ether extract of a mastic is applied to a silica gel column gel chromatography and subsequently eluted with a hexane/acetone solvent. The fifth fraction is further eluted and purified with a negative phase gel using a methanol/water solvent to produce an approximately 1:1 mixture of alpha- and beta-boswellic acid acetates. The mixture is recrystallized from a hexane/ acetone mixture solvent and further subjected to a high performance liquid chromatography to separate the alpha-boswellic acid acetate from the beta-boswellic acid acetate. The beta-boswellic acid acetate is hydrolyzed to provide the objective compound (salt) of the formula (R1, R2 are H, alpha-hydroxyl group, or R1 and R2 are O together; R3 is H, acetyl). |
