Talcous substances exhibiting specific surfaces properties, process for manufacturing them and their uses.

Talcous substances consisting of particles of flaky structure. These substances are characterised in that each particle exhibits internally the crystal structure of talc, imparting to it certain specific properties of this mineral (low hardness, thermal stability), and has hydrophilic surface properties which oppose the hydrophobic properties of the mineral talc and result in a good reactivity. The substances in accordance with the invention have a thermal and chemical stability range analogous to that of talc. They can be manufactured by a thermal route or chemical routes under conditions such as to avoid the internal conversion of the talc and such as to perform surface modifications consisting of a substitution of the inert siloxane bridges by active hydrophilic functional groups.
