PURPOSE: To provide at least two closely arranged optical waveguides provided with a light propagation direction changing device composed of mutually related embedded type Bragg diffraction gratings, for efficiently changing the propagation direction of light, so as to perform the optical coupling having extremely high efficiency between the closely arranged optical waveguides. CONSTITUTION: This device is composed of at least two waveguide parts for guiding the light inside an optical path along a vertical axis and is formed from the optical waveguide 10 provided with at least one Bragg diffraction grating area, embedded inside the fiber cores of the respective waveguide parts. The respective diffraction grating areas 11 are formed from plural diffraction grating elements 12, and in order to perform optical communication between the optical path of one waveguide part and the optical path of the other waveguide part, the respective diffraction grating elements 12 are extended in a vertical axis direction with the same cyclic intervals, while forming an angle identical to the vertical axis of the waveguide part, to change the propagation direction of the light of a specified wavelength. |
