The invention relates to perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimides of the formula (I) in which R denotes the 3- and/or 4-methoxybenzyl radical, and to their preparation and use as black pigments, inter alia in coating compositions, printing inks or for dyeing polymers.
