With a segmented wheel sluice having a vent port for air leakage in its housing, the sealing between the inlet port and the outlet port can be optimised if the geometry of the sluice housing and the number of wheel vanes is determined such that there are always at least two vanes between that edge of the outlet port which is swept over last of all by the vanes, and the nearer edge of the vent port, and if there is always at least one vane between that edge of the inlet port which is swept over first of all by the vanes and the nearer edge of the vent port and also if in the region of the downwardly rotating part of the wheel there is always one sealing section formed by at least three vanes.
