The subscribers (T32...T34), arranged in a row, of an optical ring-shaped data transmission system are connected to the next-but-one subscribers in each case (T31, T33; T32, T34; T33, T35). The subscribers located at the ends of the row (T31, T35) are also connected to the adjoining subscribers (T32, T34). The transmission link is made up of modules in each case allocated to one subscriber. The field of application of the invention are automation devices.
